Volonterski centar Osijek, u partnerstvu s Europskim volonterskim centrom (European Volunteer Centre – CEV), provodi projekt Europske volonterske službe (European Voluntary Service – EVS ) "Social Atelier".
Cilj ovog projekta je afirmirati volonterstvo kao način neformalnog učenja kroz razvijanje kompetencija volontera uključenih u provedbu projektnih aktivnosti namijenjenih određenoj društvenoj skupini, promicati koncept Europske volonterske službe i europske vrijednosti, doprinositi razvoju zajednice uključivanjem u volonterske aktivnosti i poboljšati kvalitetu života različitih društvenih skupina: migranata i izbjeglica, kao i djece i mladih, jačati međunarodnu suradnju i osnaživati partnerske organizacije za upravljanje EU projektima. U ovom dugoročnom EVS projektu sudjeluju dvije EVS volonterke Roxana Mihaela Barb i Debbie van Kerckem.
"My name is Debbie and from March to September I will be active as an EVS-volunteer in Osijek. I firmly believe in the EVS-program and international solidarity. It has no use to divide people into groups like nationality, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion or physical ability. While we are occupying yourself with these divisions, we refrain from efforts to make this world a better place for ALL of its inhabitants. If everyone would try to contribute to the improvement of his or her environment (whether on a global or very local scale), this world would be such a beautiful place. With the expression `be the change you want to see´ in the back of my mind, I decided to subscribe for the EVS program. I hope to learn new things about myself and Croatia, but I especially hope to contribute something and show some solidarity with those who have experienced more bad luck, injustice or cruelty than a person should endure in this world. I have had the privilege to be raised by a loving family in a peaceful environment, with everything I need. As a human being, I believe it is my moral duty to give something back, however small and seemingly insignificant this might seem. I am sure there will be hard times, being confronted with injustice, language barriers and myself, but I will find a way to overcome these obstacles and in this process I will develop new skills. In the first week the people of Osijek and the Volunteer Centre have already showed me how lovely and generous they are. In the following months I will work to return this kindness". "Do a little bit of good where you are. It’s those little bits put together that overwhelm the world". Desmond Tutu "How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world". Shakespeare
